Vitamin E

Other names: Tocopherol
Chemical formula: C₂₉H₅₀O₂
Solubility: Easily soluble in oils and organic solvents, insoluble in water
Stability: Sensitive to oxygen (especially under light), but heat-resistant, acid-resistant, and more stable in esterified form
Appreance: Light yellow to brownish red viscous oily liquid (α-tocopherol)

Vitamin E as the main fat soluble antioxidant:

  • Antioxidant effect: protects cell membrane polyunsaturated fatty acids from oxidative damage
  • Anti inflammatory function: Inhibit the nuclear factor kappa B (NF - κ B) signaling pathway
  • Vascular protection: inhibits platelet aggregation and improves endothelial function
  • Deficiency syndrome: leading to neuromuscular disorders and hemolytic anemia
  • Clinical application: prevention and treatment of hemolytic anemia in premature infants, adjuvant therapy for cardiovascular diseases
